Man Arrested in Police Standoff

A man is behind bars after a police standoff at Mt. Vernon Apartments on East Davis Drive in Terre Haute.

According to police, around 5:20 a.m. a female caller said she and her children were being chased by her ex-boyfriend in a vehicle. The female was advised to drive toward the Terre Haute Police Department.

Officers found the suspect’s vehicle and a chase began near 19th Street and Morton. During the pursuit, police say the suspect, identified as Brandon Kent, struck a Terre Haute Police Officer near 14 1/2 Street and Davis.

Police say Kent continued driving until he crashed into a tree behind his residence at 3381 S. 14 1/2 Street and then fled on foot.

Officers with the Terre Haute Police Department and Vigo County Sheriff’s Department established a perimeter around the residence. The Terre Haute Police Department Special Response Team was called to assist in the search for Kent.

Police officers entered  the residence and arrested Kent.

He was taken to the hospital for evaluation. The officer injured in the police chase was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
