Man arrested after leaving scene of Terre Haute crash, held by witnesses

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A man is in jail after police said he fled from the scene of a two-vehicle crash Saturday evening.

According to Terre Haute Police, Wayne Wilkinson left the scene of the crash at 1st and Ohio streets on foot after running into a sign and signal pole near the northeast side of the intersection.

Witnesses near the scene chased him down and held him there until police came.

They said driver of the other car was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Wilkinson was also taken into custody and taken to the hospital before being transported to the Vigo County Jail where he is being held without bond. 

They said Wilkinson faces charges including operating with a controlled substance, leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury and reckless driving.
