A Terre Haute man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly leaving an infant child alone to break into a church.
On Wednesday February 22nd, 2017 around 6:00 AM, uniformed officers of the Terre Haute Police Department were dispatched to an address on Hampton Ave, in reference to the recovery of stolen property.
The victim stated the ex-boyfriend; Riley Latham, 21, was watching their infant child while she was at work.
The victim received a text message from Riley around 1:00 AM saying that he “did something bad.” The victim then left work to check on their child.
Upon arriving at the home Riley told the victim he had left the house, broke into the church at 3000 College Avenue, and stole several items. The victim called the police but Riley had fled the residence prior to police arrival.
Upon searching the area, officers located Riley nearby. The stolen property was located, and Riley was arrested and charged with burglary, neglect of a dependent/child, criminal mischief and theft. The infant child was left in the care of its mother, and suffered no injuries.
