Man accused of killing Kaylyn Whitaker has trial date set for May 14

This morning a man who police say confessed to killing his girlfriend in Martinsville, IL appeared in court for a pre trial hearing.

Conner Scott is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Kaylyn Whitaker.

She was found dead in Scott’s home back in October of 2014.

At first her death appeared to be a suicide, ten months later it was declared a homicide.

In February police say Scott walked into the Danville, IN Police Department and confessed to her death.

In March he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Whitaker’s mother Leslie Roberts says she’s happy to see the trial moving forward as she seeks justice for her daughter.

“I plan on reading a letter to him. I want him to hear my words and what I went through as far as my grief of the loss of my daughter,” said Roberts. “That letter has already been written and it comes from my heart and he will hear it.”

Scott’s trial is set for May 14.
