Vigo County Parks Board says improvements coming to Fowler Park

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Monday, the Vigo County Parks and Recreation Board discussed some improvements coming to Fowler Park this fall.

According to Adam Grossman, the superintendent of Vigo County Parks, in October work will begin to repair the Irishman Bridge at Fowler Park.

Grossman says the bridge has failed to the point where people cannot walk across it.

In addition to the bridge, the state of Indiana will also do a fisheries renovation of Ruble Lake.

In November, the state will restock the lake with fish such as larger-sized bass.

Grossman says these renovations are necessary for the future of Fowler Park.

“We know it won’t be as picturesque once the lake comes down six or seven feet but to make those improvements for the next 30 years, that’s something that had to be done now,” Grossman.

The Vigo County Parks Department is also working on its master plan for the next four years and officials are asking for the community’s input.

On August 7th at 6:30 P.M. at the log barn at Fowler Park, the Vigo County Parks Department will host the first of two community input meetings for the 2020-2024 master plan.

The second meeting will be held August 20th at Hawthorn Park at 11:00 a.M. At the Burkeybyle Shelter.
