Parke Co. jail officer attacked by inmate

A female inmate attacked a Parke County Jail officer Friday.

Ashli Ann Hedges, 31, of Montezuma, Ind. was being transported from a nearby hospital back to the Parke County Jail when she attacked the female officer.  A struggle ensued until a passerby stopped to help.

The unidentified passerby called 911 and assisted the officer in the struggle until additional law enforcement arrived. 

Following an investigation, an escape plan between Hedges and Paul D. Trosper, 30, of Montezuma, was uncovered. 

Trosper was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit escape. 

Hedges, who was originally incarcerated on burglary, auto theft and theft charges, now faces additional charges of attempted escape and battery of law enforcement resulting in bodily injuries. 

The officer was treated and released at a nearby hospital for injuries sustained during the attack 

Parke County Sheriff’s Department, Rockville Police Department and an Indiana State Police officer assisted at the scene of the attack.
