TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A program designed to help local students in need have received some extra help.
Wednesday, the Terre Haute Apartment Owners and Managers Association donated $5,000 to the Vigo County Schools Backpack Program.
The program allows for food to be sent home with students during times like weekends or breaks.
Currently, the program serves over 4,000 students.
The president of the Apartment Owners and Managers Association says they donated because they see a need in the community.
“As landlords we recognize there is a need for affordable housing and in the process of interacting with tenants we realize that there is a great need for that of charity. So, we feel that it’s important that we raise funds and donate to that particular charity because we recognize the impact that it has,” said Chris Garner, Terre Haute Apartment Owners and Managers Association president.
Garner says his association held several fundraisers throughout the year to be able to present the money to the school corporation.
