Local gamers take part in 48 hour challenge at e-Bash

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Video games like Fortnite have become extremely popular over the past few years, but do gamers believe they can play it for 48 consecutive hours?

“I probably have to sleep for at least 10 hours. I don’t know, but I’ll get close,” said Landen Board, local gamer.

For more than a decade, it’s a question that staff at e-Bash Gaming Center in Terre Haute has asked its customers on thanksgiving weekend.

“We’re challenging gamers to stay up for 48 hours and we started today at 8 A.M. and we’ll go all the way until Sunday at 8 A.M.,” said Dakota Wester, e-Bash manager.

Gamer Christian Fields says he done the challenge twice and both times he has made it through two days.

So, what’s the key to beating the challenge?

“I think the best is just to take breaks maybe and just relax,” Fields said.

Others say they may take a different approach.

“Eating, drinking, I don’t know. Playing the game just keeps me up,” Board said.

Staying up for two days playing video games is a challenge in itself but staff at e-Bash says their customers also engage in friendly competition.

“It’s just trying to challenge themselves and try to compete against others to see whose going to fall asleep first or whose actually going to make it,” Wester said.

While the event is competitive, gamers say it’s also about making memories.

“I’ve made a lot of friends here, so i just like hanging out with other gamers,” Fields said.
