Local teachers learn new ways to teach STEM subjects

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – School is out for the summer, but some Vigo County teachers are headed back to class.

Rose-Hulman Director of Media Relations Dale Long says for the next two weeks, 50 Vigo County teachers will have the opportunity to go back to school to learn new projects.

It’s based on methods that can be added to their curriculum.

Long says the PRISM Program is designed to help improve skills for the district’s elementary and secondary students.

We spoke with a workshop leader, who is a retired professor of mechanical engineering, about the goals of the PRISM Program.

“I am particular in trying to get them to think about what they have been doing and how they can enhance it because they just finished a year of teaching and I know that there are things they feel they could do better,” says Mech.

Mech says the PRISM Program is designed to improve the curriculum of math and sciences with a fresh, new perspective.
