TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A local summer camp is recognized for teaching the children healthy eating habits.
The USDA presented Camp Navigate in Terre Haute with the Turnip the Beet award on Wednesday.
The camp encourages good eating habits by serving the kids healthy foods for breakfast and lunch.
The kids even get to pick fruits and veggies from community gardens that the staff then prepares.
“Presenting it in a way that’s kind of fun for the kids, so they get kind of excited about it and hopefully helps them develop those habits,” says Steve Holman, Vice President of the Board of Directors for Camp Navigate.
Aside from healthy eating habits, Camp Navigate also teaches the kids values and skills.
