Local running group announces plans for 4th of July mile race

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A 4th of July tradition will continue this year in the Wabash Valley with some modifications.

The Wabash Valley Road Runners will host The Mile on July 4. The race will start one mile north of Indiana State University’s Memorial Stadium, on Brown Boulevard, and finish by the stadium grounds.

Proceeds from the event fund the group’s running program for kids called Lace It Up. It’s a virtual running program that helps hundreds of children train for the 4th of July race.

“They’re the future of our running club. It keeps them healthy. That’s the basis for the Wabash Valley Road Runners: healthy lifestyles, active lifestyles. It’s just great to see them out there,” says events coordinator Dave Williams.

There will be no race-day registration for the event in order to reduce the crowd size due to COVID-19.

You can find more information about signing up for the race, as well as more information about the Lace It Up program, on the Wabash Valley Road Runners website.
