Local retailer helps fill the “shoe bus”

News

A local retailer is helping the Terre Haute Women’s Club fill the Shoe Bus.

The bus is used to distribute shoes to local children in need.

Academy Sports + Outdoors presented the organization with a $750 gift card.

Women’s club members spent the morning shopping for kids’ footwear.

Every year, the group delivers about 1,200 paris of tennis shoes to Vigo County students grades K through 12.

Academy Sports is happy to help make a difference.

“They’ll go to school with holes in their shoes, no socks during the winter time. It’s great to give back to the kids to make sure they have something they need,” says store director Rob Crowley.

“There are kids who share shoes with their siblings, so only one of them can come to school everyday and when we provide them with good athletic shoes that fit them well, they can be in school everyday and get more out of their education,” says club member Heather Wolf.

Customers can also bring new pairs of shoes to Academy Sports + Outdoors. The store will then give those to the Shoe Bus.
