As the DACA controversy heats up, the decision could effect many here in the Valley. The St. Joseph University Parish is part of the church community that supports dreamers nationwide and also helping those out here in Terre Haute.
Friar Mario Serrano says the students are facing a lot of fear and uncertainty. Serrano says many dreamers don’t realize they were born in other countries until they begin to apply to or think about college.
He says the effect of being deported could be anything from the students not knowing their native language or returning to their country’s turmoil that forced their parents to flee in the first place.
Serrano says it is an intense time full of uncertainty and fear.
Meanwhile, President Trump said that the process will be completed in the next 6 months unless Congress can come up with something else.
