Young runners take center stage in Indiana Fall Classic

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Runners from across the Wabash Valley visited Hawthorne Park in Terre Haute this weekend to take part in the Indiana Fall Classic.

Over 200 participants took part in the event, hosted by the Wabash Valley Road Runners.

Different races were available to take part in, including the 10K and one mile race.

Many of the runners in the park were young children who were there to get a little exercise as part of their running club. Lost Creek Elementary running club coach Kyle Kirchner, who is also a board member for the Wabash Valley Road Runners, said his kids worked very hard for this event.

“We have about 35 to 40 of our runners that have come out and are going to participate in this mornings race,” Kirchner said. “Most of them are participating in the one mile. We do have our long distance lions that are participating in the 10K race and they’ve worked really hard.”

The Wabash Valley Runners will host a “Christmas in the Park” on Dec. 4, their final running event of the year, in Deming Park.
