TEERE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: Due to multiple crashes on Monday morning, a Vigo County School bus carrying students got stuck in a ditch after attempting to avoid the accidents and take a detour.
“On Monday (September 25) morning, a Vigo County School Corporation bus was ‘in line’ behind an accident involving a pedestrian on South US 41. The school bus was not involved with the incident,” Dr. John Newport, Vigo County School Corporation’s Chief Operations Officer explained. “In an unrelated incident, there was an existing accident at the intersection of Creal St. and Old Fort Harrison Ave. While attempting to reroute in a different direction to avoid the accident scene, the school bus took a turn too tight and dropped a tire off the edge of the roadway into a ditch, causing the bus to become stuck. Another VCSC bus was called to transport the students to school. No one was injured in the incident and students arrived at school safely. We acknowledge the bus driver’s quick reaction and attention to safety,” Newport added.
