WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WAWV/WTWO) – Valley Professionals Community Health Center welcomed their newest facility into West Terre Haute.

For many years West Terre Haute has not had easy access to a pharmacy or a family doctors office until now.

Tuesday June 14th the new health center invited the community to join them for their ribbon cutting and open house. The facility has seven examination rooms, a donor wall, as well as a mural of Dodge Drugs which was the original pharmacy of this community.

A majority of surrounding communities have vouched for the need for a health center in West Terre Haute for several years. Sisters of Providence The Connecting Link joined forces with Valley Professionals Community Health Center, as well as local community partners to start building the facility.

CEO of Valley Professionals Community Health Center TJ Warren said as $376,000 was privately donated for the 1.3 million dollar facility, there has been a great need.

“Its been a long time coming and we’ve been working on this project for more than five years,” Warren said. “For a lot of people in this community they bike or they walk, so we wanted a location too that was going to be very easy to access for to walk, bike, and ride the bus route.”

Nurse Practitioner Michelle Miller said it will be important to check up on those who haven’t had access to a health center or pharmacy for quite some time.

“If patients don’t know that they have hypertension because they feel okay or they haven’t had any kind of screening tests, a lot of times we cant detect some serious chronic illness until it’s too far gone,” Miller said. “It’s caused bigger problems.”

Sister Dorothy Rasche along with all other community partners invite the community to stop in when they get the chance.

“Its here for everyone please feel free to come with an appointment or without we are always glad to help you,” Rasche said.
