West Terre Haute walkway reopens for the weekend

Local News

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The popular walkway between Terre Haute and West Terre Haute is open once again.

It temporarily closed this week after Monday’s storms brought a tree down onto the walkway causing some damage. Indiana Department of Transportation spokesperson Debbie Calder said crews would make repairs so that people could enjoy the walkway this weekend.

Vigo County Commissioner Chris Switzer said the walkway has really taken off in the community.

“Everyday there’s 14 to 15 people going to work, I see going to work, walking across,” Switzer said. “It’s phenomenal the way the community has welcomed this thing.”

The purpose of the walkway is to give pedestrians a safer route between Terre Haute and West Terre Haute.
