Water leak at Wabash Activity Center was unexpected expense

Local News

TERRE HAUTE Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)- An unexpected leak in a pipe over the weekend has set the Wabash Activity Center back in funds.

The non-profit organization said roughly $1,000 will be needed for the insurance deductible.

Director of the center Michelle Inman said the expense has to be covered either through a fundraiser or donations to the center.

She said she’s hopeful that the community will help them through this time.

Officials said the center has set up a GoFundMe account on their Facebook to help cover the costs.

Inman said they will keep their doors open through this, and it’s looking like the water may be fixed as soon as Friday.

She said since this is an adult-based organization, funding is basically non-existent.

I feel like our seniors are pushed back to the back-burner and it’s a struggle to find funding for the seniors.

Not all is bad at the center, Inman noted. She said all classes are still scheduled, and they’re actually lucky this happened in the summer.

Officials said if this had happened a few feet further into the building or in the winter, the difference in cost could have been thousands.

Inman said she’s been told no damage has occurred and that they’re lucky they caught it when they did.
