WASHINGTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A police officer with the Washington Police Department was honored Thursday at a ceremony in Washington, Ind., where he received the “IPAC Law Enforcement of the Year” award.

Det. Sgt. Brandon Garland with WPD received the award for his outstanding work at protecting his local community. The IPAC in the award’s name stands for Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council, the group that awarded honor.

Daviess County Prosecutor Dan Murrie was the one to present Garland with the award. The ceremony took place at the Washington Courthouse Thursday afternoon.

Garland said it is nice to get recognition from his peers and community members.

“It’s definitely appreciated to receive such an honor,” he said. “I know for law enforcement in general, it’s always nice for us to get appreciation and, like I said, it’s definitely not a one person award because a lot of work gets put in by a lot of the great people I work with.”
