TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — 7000 flags were placed in honor of Memorial Day.

The flags were placed around the ISU Memorial Stadium Wednesday evening, as the he Wabash Valley Run for the Fallen hosted an event to place American flags around the one mile trail there. The placement of the flags are to honor those who have given their lives in operations in the Middle East since 9-11-2001, and those who have come home with wounds, both seen and unseen.

Event Organizer Olivia Goulding said it’s important to know what sacrifice looks like.

“This is meant to give a visual representation that people can see the true extent of those who are willing to give their lives,” Goulding said.

The flags will be displayed along the trail through May 31.
