TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — With record high gas prices, many local breast cancer patients are in need of financial assistance, so they can get to their daily radiation treatments and appointments.
Wednesday evening the Wabash Valley Breast Cancer Survivor Organization presented a $20,000 donation in the form of gift cards. It will be split between Union and Regional hospitals. That happened in the lobby of Westminster Village. The money will be used to help breast cancer patients purchase fuel.
President of the Wabash Valley Breast Cancer Survivor Organization Brenda Miller said it’s exciting to help others in need.
“If you can help somebody just a little bit it makes you feel really good. You know that because you know you’ve been through the same thing that they’re going through,” Miller said.
The donation is made possible from the annual “Paint The Town Pink” carnation sale held on Mother’s Day weekend. An additional $20,000 donation will be presented again later this year by the same organization.
