Multiple stolen vehicles, a wreck and a police chase—that was the scene in Parke County Tuesday that landed a West Terre Haute man in jail.
A Parke County Sheriff’s deputy was in Rosedale processing a stolen vehicle out of West Terre Haute when he received a call of a second stolen vehicle in the area. And just a few minutes after that, a witness reported a single-vehicle accident near Lyford matching the description of the second vehicle.
According to Parke County Sheriff Justin Cole, authorities were investigating the wreck when the suspect, later identified as Bryan Roberts, “came flying through” the area on a stolen ATV.
Authorities were led on a chase through the fields, woods and on county roads in an attempt to apprehend Roberts, who eventually abandoned the ATV. Once the foot chase began, officers and a K9 officer were able to make the arrest.
The stolen vehicles contained firearms and other items, including deer mounts, which were later identified as stolen out of a Clay County business overnight, according to Sheriff Cole.
Roberts, 27, of West Terre Haute, was transported to a nearby hospital for injuries sustained either from the vehicle accident or from hitting an embankment on the ATV. He was later transferred to the Parke County Jail.
Roberts faces numerous charges related to auto theft and being a serious violent felon in possession of firearms.
