VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Authorities are investigating a shooting that occurred overnight in Vincennes.
The Vincennes Police Department confirmed a shooting took place around 9 p.m. Thursday at Maple Park Apartments on Autumn Ridge Lane.
The shooting has left the community on edge.
“I heard a gunshot in my sister-in-law’s house, and me and my sister-in-law walked out of the house and there was a bunch of cops at the neighbor’s house on the same floor as her,” said former Maple Park resident, Krystl Morton.
The victim was taken to an Evansville hospital with what authorities believe are non life-threatening injuries. The suspect is still at large. No names have been released at this time.
Residents said they’re now concerned for their safety and want to see improved safety measures in the neighborhood.
“They could always put a camera system in all the apartments,” said resident, Bob Chad.
Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident.
Management at Maple Park said for them, keeping the community safe is top priority.
“We are working with the police to figure out kind of what happened so we ensure it doesn’t happen again. And ensure everyone’s safety here,” said Brandi McGauley, assistant property manager.
An Indiana State Police crime technician was called in to assist with the on-going investigation.
