VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WAWV/WTWO) – Vigo County Solid Waste Management District has added a new service to the area.

Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett said Vigo County community members may now recycle glass at the waste management district location during business hours.

“You’ll be able to come and drop glass off like you’ve been able to drop other materials off,” Bennett said. “We have a separate dumpster here for glass at no cost to taxpayers and citizens of our community.”

The goal of the new service is to keep the glass from the sides of roads and out of landfills.

Bennett said the process to find a company that was open to collecting glass to recycle has been rather difficult, but he’s glad it’s now available.

“We keep adding these services as we can to make it easy for individual households to dispose of these things and recycle them so they can be reused again,” Bennett added.

The Solid Waste Management District is located at 3230 E. Haythorne Avenue Terre Haute.

The location will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday thru Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month.
