TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office is searching for an inmate who was released from the jail without a court order Sept. 5.
The Sheriff’s Office said they immediately initiated a search for Gregg F. Shepherd, age 48, after the release was discovered Friday.
Shepherd’s last known address of 7123 S. Saginaw Place, Terre Haute.
Shepherd had been ordered detained on pending charges of criminal confinement, battery and theft.
Superior Court Judge Sarah Mullican issued two additional warrants for Shepherd’s arrest, and law enforcement agencies have been notified with a request for assistance in locating Shepherd.
“Although we do not view Shepherd as an immediate threat to anyone, we promptly notified the victim in the pending confinement and battery cases and we are aggressively searching for this individual,” said Sheriff John Plasse.
Plasse also confirmed that a review of internal procedures was under way.
“This is an unfortunate situation that we do not want repeated,” said Plasse. “I have asked our team to review all internal procedures to determine how this error occurred and to train and implement procedures that will prevent such a premature detainee release in the future.”
