VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County Health Department reported 643 cases of COVID-19 for the week of Sept. 12-18.
A majority of cases reported were among those between ages 10-19, followed by 106 positive cases with people between 20-26.
Despite an increase, Vigo County Health Department Educator Roni Elder said there have been no detected hot spots.
“We’re mainly seeing people spread COVID among their families,” Elder said. “There have been some bigger gatherings people have mentioned they were at. There’s a lot of concerts in the surrounding area that people have gone to without masks or vaccinations. Those have increased that number.”
Elder added that the VCHD is seeing an increase of COVID-19 cases in schools. Click on this link to see more numbers on Vigo County’s updated COVID-19 numbers.
“Unfortunately, our numbers are higher compared to this time last year,” Elder said. “We’re looking at numbers we had in November and we couldn’t keep up in November. That’s not a good place to be, the hospitalizations being u and COVID-19 numbers being up. It’s really scary right now, everybody is kind of packing up and acting like the pandemic is over.”
A mobile vaccination and testing site will be held from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 24 and 25 at the Vigo County Fairgrounds.
