Vigo County mourns passing of ‘stalwart defender of democracy’ Patricia Mansard

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A former longtime Vigo County Clerk and local activist will be remembered not only for her public service but also as a champion for voting rights.

Patricia Mansard died on April 29. She was 82.

Mansard was activity involved in politics. She served as county clerk for four terms and as deputy clerk under her husband, Bill.

She was also a member of Vigo County’s League of Women Voters for more than 30 years. The league’s president, Dr. Carly Schmitt, remembers her as a champion for voters rights and education.

“She was a stalwart defender of democracy,” Schmitt said. “She believed in expanding voter access and making sure every voter was informed and knew what their rights were.”

A visitation for Mansard will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday at St. Joseph University Parish, 113 South 5th Street. Services will follow.
