MARSHALL, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Vigo County held a bass fishing tournament Saturday for area high schools at Mill Creek Lake in Marshall, Ill.

Teams from all three Vigo County high schools participated, with coaches acting as both boat drivers and fish weighers. The team from Terre Haute North High School won the competition, catching over 50 pounds of fish on the day.

Tournament participants also raised money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital before the fishing started. The tournament’s Media Supervisor Mike Auten said his son was a patient at St. Jude’s and that this event was a way for him to give back to both the fishing community and hospital that helped him.

“The angling community really reached out and helped us in that time of need,” Auten said. “So this event is kind of giving back. I’m helping the teams, mentoring them. And they’ve gone into the community to help raise funds for St. Jude’s.”

Auten said the tournament was able to raise over $5,000 for St. Jude’s.
