TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Guests at the Vigo County Fair were all smiles Saturday as the fair returned to normal activities for the first time since 2019.
Funnel cakes, carnival rides and attractions are just some of the many things guests were able to experience at the Vigo County Fair. Fair staff said it is nice to be back after having limited activities in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Just to come down and appreciate what we have,” Wabash Valley Fairgrounds Manager Jenny Hamilton said. “I think you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone and obviously none of us were able to come down and have a good time and you didn’t think about it until you don’t get to do it and so it’s really important to come back this year and comeback stronger than we ever have.”
Not only does the fair offer rides that light up the night, there are also horse and pony shows as well as concerts and tractor exhibits. Fairgoers said it felt good to see the fair return to a normal schedule.
“A lot of it is just sometimes we get to see somebody’s got a new tractor or a different one or a rebuilt one so that’s always interesting,” Sullivan County resident Sharon Hartman said. “Then games and races are always fun.”
Hamilton said it was great to see the community’s reaction after months of planning.
“We are just over the moon excited to have people back down here for the fair,” she said. “Obviously last year was kind of a bust. So to be able to plan and actually follow through with what we planned is really exciting.”
Events and rides will happen rain or shine throughout the weekend but if storms occur events could be pushed back or cancelled.
