VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Jail staff at the Vigo county jail will be getting another pay raise after Tuesday night’s Vigo County Council meeting.

During the meeting, a discussion was had regarding the previous pay rate increase from March that brought the base pay of correctional officers at the jail from $17.96 to $19 per hour. According to Vigo County Council Administrator Kylissa Miller, some on the council felt the raise hadn’t achieved the results that had been hoped for.

A split vote of 4 to 3 passed the additional increase which raises the base pay for correctional officers at the jail from $19 per hour to $20 per hour. Higher-up officers in the jail, such as Corporal and Senior Sergeant, will see their rates increase at the same rate.

Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse, in response to the increase, stated he was “happy that they approved rate to $20, but they deserve more.”

In related news, the new Vigo County Jail will soon be receiving occupants. Sheriff Plasse says inmates will be moved in on July 1, but Sheriff’s Office staff will begin working in the building as soon as mid-May.
