VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County YMCA hopes the community will join in for a fun event returning for its second year.
It’s called the “Y not Tri” triathlon and it’s taking place on March 18 at 10 a.m. It involves a 300-yard swim, a 5-mile bike ride, and a 1-point-5-mile walk or run on the treadmills. People can do it as an individual or as a 3-person team.
Vigo County YMCA Health and Wellness Coordinator Macey Elden explained it’s open to both members and non-members, and that all skill levels are welcome to participate. All the proceeds go to the YMCA youth scholarship programs.
“People have always said ‘we want to try a triathlon but we’re too scared to do it,’ and things like that, so we decided to make a super sprint triathlon and make it welcoming to everybody,” Elden said.
Elden also mentioned that people can register by visiting the Vigo County YMCA website or by giving them a call at (812) 232-8446.
