VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Some local students have been reading a lot of books over the past year and on Friday they tested their knowledge of those books in a fun competition.

Vigo County middle and elementary schools took part in the Battle of the Books, an event that is the culmination of a year-long reading program.

The kids read 20 books throughout the year and then as teams answer questions about those books in the Battle of the Books competition.

The winning teams were Dixie Bee and Riley Elementary. School officials discussed how they enjoy holding this event.

“I love being around the kids and just to celebrate books, celebrate the works of other people, and then just being able to show what you know and the kids are excited,” said Janet Brosmer, VCSC curriculum coordinator.

The students will also be visited by the author of The Magic Eraser, Aaron Starmer, who will speak to the students and give them all an autographed book.
