VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse recently alerted residents to be aware of a rise in residential mailbox theft.

According to a post from the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, there has been an increase in thefts, mostly of incoming and outgoing checks, from residential mailboxes.

The post states that there are multiple ongoing investigations and recommends that anyone with an outgoing check to mail, deposits it directly into a USPS mailbox.

Vigo County Sheriff, John Plasse, gave further advice on how to keep your mail safe and where some of the reports were coming from.

“Watch your neighborhood and report any suspicious vehicles or people to the police. We’ve had a few in Krislynn Woods and the others were spread about the county,” Plasse said.
