VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County Health Department is reminding food vendors and event organizers ahead of the upcoming summer months to be mindful of the legal requirements.
While the summer often includes a lot of fun community events, it’s important for organizers and vendors to register with the Vigo County Health Department before working at or putting on any event in which food or drinks are served.
Food and drink vendors must also have a valid permit to serve their products in Vigo County.
Public Health Educator Shelby Jackson expressed it’s especially important for vendors coming from outside Vigo County to be aware of the requirements.
Jackson suggests people start the process at least 20 days in advance as there are some deadlines.
“There are some consequences if they don’t have proper permits and documentation. They could be asked to leave, they cannot sell their food or drink or they could be fined,” Jackson explained.
Contact the Vigo County Health Department to learn more about the process as it can look different depending on the type of vendor.
