TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Progress continues to be made on the Veteran’s Village in Terre Haute.
As previously reported, six tiny homes are being built at Maple Avenue and North 23rd Street. They’ll serve as transitional homes for local veterans experiencing homelessness. The Terre Haute Area Association of Realtors is spearheading the effort, but the association said it’s really a community project with so many stepping up to help.
The association’s board president gave us an update on the construction.
“Foundation’s next step is getting the slabs poured and we currently have the local carpenter union in the process of donating lumber and they’re going to be building prefab, all the walls off-site. They’ll bring it in and these things are going to start going up quick,” said Kyle Shoults, Terre Haute Area Association of Realtors Board President.
Shoults also said the project relies heavily on volunteers and there’s no firm completion date at this time, but that he looks forward to the homes taking shape quickly, and getting veterans moved in soon.
