SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A female driver was traveling northbound on SR 63 failed to negotiate a curve and rolled her vehicle multiple times, resulting in her hospitalization, Sheriff Clark Cottom reported Friday.
She was traveling at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her vehicle, which caught fire while she was still inside it. Deputy Justin Copeland reported the woman’s husband had been following her, and with the aid of a passerby, pulled her from the vehicle.
The driver was was identified as Gaila Thacker, 28, of Sullivan. She was admitted to Terre Haute Regional Hospital with internal injuries. Hospital officials have told police her condition does not appear to be life-threatening. Police developed probable cause that Thacker had been consuming alcohol prior to the crash. Charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated are pending.
