TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An argument between a woman and her boyfriend’s ex reportedly led to one person being struck by a car after the woman drove into a yard to strike the ex, according to police.

26-year-old Misty Doty, of Terre Haute, has been charged with aggravated battery, battery by means of a deadly weapon, and criminal recklessness. Court documents show the charges stem from the events of August 22.

On that day, officers were dispatched to a home in the 4600 block of N. Hendricks Street for a report of a subject lying face down in a yard. Upon arrival deputies found the victim in the yard with tire tracks leading up to the the woman.

“According to the tire tracks, the vehicle traveled off the roadway approximately 15 feet to strike [victim],” the probable cause affidavit reads.

The victim and a witness would tell police that Doty had been at a party at her boyfriends house the night before along with the victim and the witness. During the party the victim and Doty reportedly had an argument after it was learned that the boyfriend had asked the victim for money to use to buy Doty a birthday gift. The victim said the argument ended with Doty going to her boyfriends bedroom for the night. The victim ended up staying the night at the home, reportedly without Doty’s knowledge.

During an interview at Union Hospital, the victim told police that when she woke up the morning of August 22, she attempted to gather her things and leave, but ended up exiting the building at the same time as Doty.

“Affiant learned that Misty (Doty) had yelled at [victim] ‘Who the (expletive) are you?’ [victim] stated that she didn’t say anything and kept walking. … [victim] stated that as she was walking she heard Misty state ‘you got me (expletive) up’ and then heard tires screech. [victim] then stated that ‘I hear her right behind me, and I turn around and see her in the car coming at me.’ … [victim] then stated that as she was running and then ‘boom’ and ‘she hits me and I go flying like 10 feet in the air.'”

Probable Cause Affidavit filed in Vigo County Court

Police said CT scans would show that the victim sustained fractures to her hip/pelvic region from the incident.

Jail records indicate that Doty was arrested and booked into the Vigo County Jail on September 7. Monday, Doty appeared in Vigo County Superior Court 3 for a hearing, during which a bail review hearing was scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, Sep. 25.
