TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County School Corporation (VCSC) wants to enroll as many incoming kindergarteners as possible by April 26th.

By pushing early enrollment, the corporation hopes to have a better idea of enrollment numbers so they can properly staff classrooms. School leaders said that now is the best time to reach out to new college graduates to get the best teaching candidates, providing the best education possible for students.

“We want to make sure everyone is enrolled as quickly as possible,” Ashley Bennett, Principal of Deming Early Learning Center said. “That way we know about our numbers for each classroom, we know how many teachers we need to hire, and also, we know how to best fill the classrooms, meaning that our class sizes aren’t too large and so that we make sure everybody has a good first experience with school,” she added.

The corporation encourages early enrollment for both Kindergarten and preschool students. The corporation offers several opportunities for preschool throughout the district.

Preschool here at Deming Learning Center and also at Vike’s and Tykes Early Learning Center are full-day programs in the corporation. We actually have 9 full-day preschools in this building, and we have one at Vike’s and Tykes,” Bennett said. “Our other programs are half-day and they’re kind of dispersed throughout the school corporation on separate sides of town to serve all over the community. Those are half-day programs so that we can serve more students,” she added.

The corporation has made enrollment easy through its website or by calling the school closest to your home.
