VERMILLION CO, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– A Valparaiso man was arrested Saturday after going more than 120 miles-per-hour during a pursuit in Vermillion County.
According to a release from the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office, deputies saw 19-year-old Ryan Bircher going just over 90 m.p.h. on a black and red sports bike around 12:30 p.m. while traveling south on state road 63. Officers attempted to stop Bircher, but he ignored orders and began to drive on the wrong side of the road at speeds in excess of 120 m.p.h. Authorities lost sight of the driver, and the pursuit was terminated.
A short time later, Vermillion County 911 received a call from a subject who said they were ran off the road by the fleeing driver, and they saw a crash near the intersection of SR 63 and the U.S. 36 overpass. When deputies arrived on scene, they identified Bircher as the driver who fled. He was transported to a local hospital for his injuries before being taken into custody on charges of resisting law enforcement, reckless driving and false informing.
