TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– The Vigo County Council approved several spending requests on Wednesday totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The council moved forward with requests to purchase x-ray machine for checking bags at the Vigo County Government Annex building to help approved security, along with another at the juvenile justice center. That request totaled just over $40,000.
The council approved a separate motion to increase pay for the building security at the government annex building for this year as well, which cost about $55,000. Vigo County Council President Todd Thacker said he believed it was a priority to increase safety at the building.
“This is the only county building that doesn’t have building security,” Thacker said. “In today’s world, it’s important to our employees and I care about the employees. They have their own building committee that they talk about these things, they wanted to get a scanner.”
The council also approved $105,000 to go towards improvements at Markle Mill Dam Park that will go into effect this year, and $122,500 to demolish the old paper mill building currently located near the property for The Mill concert venue.
