VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Back-to-school shopping is often costly and can be difficult for families in need. But you can help make a difference.

Monday the United Way of the Wabash Valley kicked off its Stuff The Bus school supply drive.

The donation drive is virtual this year and includes seven local school corporations. People can go online, select the school corporation they wish to help, and order items from that corporation’s Walmart wishlist.

The corporations involved are:

  • Casey-Westfield Community Schools
  • North Central Parke Community School Corp.
  • Northeast School Corporation
  • Rural Community Academy
  • South Vermillion School Corporation
  • Southwest School Corporation
  • Vigo County School Corporation

Supplies will be delivered directly to the schools and distributed to families in need. United Way marketing and communications director Abby Desboro says the yearly effort is an important one.

“A lot of kiddos, if they don’t come to school prepared, it makes it harder. So our teachers are strapped, our schools are strapped, so this is just a way to set the kids up for success. [To] make sure that they have the supplies that they need. Everything from just not having the right pens and pencils can make a difference for a kid.”

If donators do not want to shop from the wish list, monetary donations are also accepted. The opportunity to direct your monetary donation remains the same as with wishlist donations online.
