VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Thursday evening Vermillion County welcomed United Way to the City of Clinton’s community center.

United Way hosted a learn and connect event about substance abuse. Community members discussed ways to help others know where to find local treatment options and how recovery is possible. There were also opportunities to speak and learn from local treatment providers.

Executive Director of United Way the Wabash Valley Richard Payonk said this event is designed to help support those in need.

“Those suffering from substance use disorder are not suffering from some moral failing. But really this can be a disease and a very difficult one to get through and there are services available, and there is recovery that is possible,” Payonk said. “But we need more of the community to embrace that attitude so folks will go and get that kind of support that they need.”
