TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — United Way of the Wabash Valley hosted one of its most popular and recognizable events, Wednesday evening.

The annual “Power of the Purse” event raises funds to help Wabash Valley children.  Those who attended spent the evening mingling with friends, sampling from local restaurants, purse raffles, and a live purse auction. Power of the Purse has allowed United Way’s “Success by Six Impact Council” to help children from birth to six years of age develop the skills needed to be ready for kindergarten.

Co-Executive Director of United Way Danielle Isdell said it’s a fun way to raise money for children.

“We hear all the time how important early childhood education is. And so for us to kind of get together and raise money for funds for things like our “Real Men Read Program” and “Back to School Program”, things like that. It’s just really important,” Isbell said.

If you weren’t able to make it you can still donate on their website.
