TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WAWV/WTWO) – The United Way of the Wabash Valley hosted it’s annual safety net grant awards providing $117,000 to local organizations.

Safety net grants are awarded to local emergency services that provide food, shelter, and clothing to the community.

The American Red Cross, Council of Domestic Abuse, and Mental Health America of West Central Indiana, were among the 11 organizations awarded safety grants.

Mental Health America of West Central Indiana Development Director Theo Hull said the grant will allow the organization to expand their homeless outreach.

“This will provide homeless individuals with a birth certificate and a drivers license,” Hull said. “It will allow people to move out of homelessness into services and housing.”

Applications for 2023 safety net grants will be available in December.
