Union workers volunteer to install new walls at Humane Society

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Members of a local sheet metal union volunteered Tuesday at the Terre Haute Humane Society to install new walls.

Before the pandemic, the Humane Society received a grant to upgrade its large kennel walls with stainless steel. General manager Sarah Valentine said the stain-less steel walls are better for the dogs and easier to clean and that she is grateful for the help from Local 20 union workers.

“If they hadn’t volunteered their time, it would have taken us a lot longer,” Valentine said. “You know, these guys know how to build stuff. It helps so much having them coming in and replacing all of this.”

The Humane Society is currently accepting donations and Valentine said they are in need of cleaning supplies, paper towels, bleach and wet puppy food.
