Two-car crash in Illinois kills two people

RICHLAND COUNTY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — A two car crash Saturday in Richland County, Ill., killed two people, Illinois State Police said Monday in a news release.

The crash occurred when a 1996 green GMC Sierra driven by Julie Mines, 60, Lawrenceville, Ill., was traveling eastbound on US Route 50 and for unknown reasons crossed the center line and hit another car head on, police said.

The car Mines hit, a 1997 red Dodge Ram, was being driven by Edward Worrell, 32, Noble, Ill., according to the police. Both Mines and Worrell were pronounced dead at the scene, the news release said.

According to Illinois State Police officials, the reason for the crash is unclear and no further information is available at the time. However, a preliminary investigation is underway.
