TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A water main break Friday morning has left a Terre Haute neighborhood under a 24-hour boil order.

That’s according to Indiana American Water, who said the break happened at approximately 8:15 a.m. Friday. Workers are reportedly working to make emergency repairs following the break.

The repairs are expected to take approximately 7 hours to complete. Customers could experience service interruptions or lowered water pressure while repairs are underway

A 24-hour boil water advisory has been activated for customers in the affected area.

“Any water to be used for drinking or cooking should be brought to a rolling boil for 3 minutes. Water is OK for bathing, washing, and other common uses,” an Indiana American Water release said.

Residents are asked not to approach crews as they make repairs in the field.

Second boil water advisory for planned repairs

In addition to the emergency repairs being made near E. Margaret Avenue, a planned “system improvement” project is expected to take place Friday evening beginning at 7 p.m. and ending Saturday at 1 a.m.

This planned project may cause service interruptions or low water pressure for customers affected.

Customers in the affected area have been placed under a 24-hour boil water advisory.

“Any water to be used for drinking or cooking should be brought to a rolling boil for 3 minutes. Water is OK for bathing, washing, and other common uses,” an Indiana American Water release said.

Indiana American Water said customers will receive a notification when the boil advisory has ended. For more information visit Indiana American Water’s alert page here.
