TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An event Thursday at Ivy Tech Terre Haute was designed to help fill current employer needs with a focus on truck drivers.

The college hosted a career fair featuring companies recruiting truck drivers. Participants also can get a look at more information about Ivy Tech’s CDL training program.

With an increased freight, due to at-home deliveries, industry experts say that truck drivers are now in high demand. Stephen Fennell, the Director of Training and Operations with the Center for Transportation Safety says with a good driving record, almost anyone can qualify.

“With a good driving record, a little bit of training, you know a company will give you additional training once you’re hired in. If you keep yourself safe you can pretty much write your own meal ticket.”

Fennell also discussed how much money you can make as a truck driver.

“The starting wage, for the most part, is right around $50,000 to $60,000 a year. With some of the better companies paying upwards of about $100,000 once you have a little bit of experience,” said Fennell.
