TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – In order to continue to brace for the continuation of summer weather, you’ll want to make sure your air conditioning at home is properly working.

John Bays with Bays Heating and Cooling said keeping your A/C properly maintained throughout the year, will help to ensure that you have cool air during the summer months.

He recommends changing your furnace filter often because, with the high temperatures, you’ll likely be running your A/C more often which will cause the filer to plug up faster.

“Make sure you keep the batteries in your thermostat changed and make sure you keep your outside air conditioning coils sprayed off with a hose, just with light water pressure,” Bays said.

Bays said issues with the coils are the most common problem they deal with during the summertime.

“The most common issue, whenever we get into heat like this, is that the outside condenser coil on your air conditioner gets plugged up and it actually causes your system to overheat, and in turn, that will burn other parts of the air conditioner,” Bays said.

He said he recommends having your filters and coils checked out during the spring months so that you don’t find out there’s a problem right when the high temperatures kick in.
