TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local organization presented a check for over $8,000 dollars to the Terre Haute Police Department on Monday that will help make, special opportunities possible.
The funds were raised during the Wabash Valley Jeep Junkie’s third annual Run to Remember fundraiser for the THFD memorial fund.
The event was started after Detective Greg Ferency was killed back in the summer of 2021 and a statue in his honor, was unveiled in September.
In addition to Monument Upkeep, Terre Haute Police Chief Keen said the Run to Remember also allows them to send officers to funerals outside our local area, and support other law enforcement agencies.
“It really means you know the world to us that we’re able to have such a community that supports us the different organizations, so we just wouldn’t be able to do much without their support,” Keen said.
Keen adds that almost their entire police memorial was funded through community donations, and they’re very grateful for that.
